Medicare Rebates
Medicare offers partial rebates for consultations with Psychologists under the 'Better Access to Mental Health Care' initiative. In order to claim this rebate, you must have a Mental Health Care Plan and referral completed by either your General Practitioner or Medical Specialist. Up to 10  individual sessions with a psychologist can be claimed per calendar year. Progress will be reviewed with your referring General Practitioner or Medical Specialist after your first six sessions to determine eligibility for an additional four sessions.

Please bring your referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan at the time of your first session. Medicare rebates can be claimed during your consultation. 

Please note you are not required to have a Mental Health Care Plan and Referral to see a psychologist for psychological consultation, however you will have to pay the full consultation fee (unless you can claim a rebate through your private health fund). 

Please note medicare rebates are able to be claimed for consultations (up to 10) with psychologists Dr Louise Steel, Shirley Robert, Alisha Gambhir, Rosanna Giosserano and Emma Beckwith, but are not able to be claimed for consultations with provisional psychologist Molly Brown and Lauren Tai.

The medicare rebate for consultations with psychologists Dr Louise Steel, Shirley Robert, Alisha Gambhir, Rosanna Giosserano and Emma Beckwith is $98.95 (higher rebates may be afforded by medicare if you have reached safety net thresholds).

Private Health
You may be eligible for a rebate through your Private Health Fund. Speak directly to your Private Health Fund for further information regarding your eligibility. Please note that only one claim channel can be used per session (i.e. either Medicare or Private Health Insurance, but not both).​
